A husband and wife team of franchise owners of two Clarion hotels were arrested by the federal authorities in the Kansas City area on September 11, 2012 for alleged employment-related immigration violations. The Kansas City Business Journal reports that "Prosecutors on Tuesday unsealed an indictment alleging that Munir Ahman Chaudary and his wife, Rhonda Bridge, knowingly employed undocumented workers at the Clarion Hotel in Overland Park and at a Clarion Hotel operated as a Radisson at Kansas City International Airport.
Chaudary and Bridge were charged in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., with conspiracy to harbor undocumented aliens for personal gain and wire fraud.
Through their companies, Rhonda & Sons Inc. and Mac & Sons LLC, the couple paid illegal employees less than legal ones starting in 2008, the indictment alleges. It claims that about half their employees were not authorized to work in the United States.
An undercover agent took a housekeeping job at the Overland Park hotel in June, claiming to be an illegal alien, and was told he would be paid a lower hourly rate than other employees because no wages would be withheld, prosecutors said."
